Privacy Notice for California Residents

Effective Date: Jun 1, 2026. Last Updated: Jun 1, 2026

This Notice supplements the EducationDirectory.net Privacy Policy and applies solely to California residents. EducationDirectory.net is owned and operated by Education Directory, LLC ("Education Directory," "we," "us," or "our"). It describes our practices under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (the "CCPA"). Terms defined by the CCPA have the same meaning here.

We do not intentionally collect precise geolocation. We do not request Social Security numbers, financial-account credentials, payment-card information, medical records, health-insurance information, passport numbers, driver's-license numbers or other government-identification numbers through the Services.

We sell or share these categories with schools and education providers; education matching, aggregation and distribution partners; advertising and marketing partners; analytics and attribution providers; and other parties identified when the information was collected. We disclose them for business purposes to those recipients and to service providers and contractors, consent-verification, fraud-prevention and data-validation providers, professional advisers, government authorities as legally required, and parties involved in a business transaction.

A transfer may be a "sale" under California law even when information moves as part of an education-matching or lead-distribution service rather than as a standalone consumer list. "Sharing" generally means disclosure for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 18 years old.

2. Sources

We collect personal information from you; your browser, device and interactions with EducationDirectory.net; advertising and referral partners; schools and education providers; education matching, aggregation and distribution partners; consent-verification providers; fraud-prevention and data-validation providers; and analytics, technology and other service providers.

3. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information to process requests for education-related information; identify schools and programs that may match a consumer's interests and route requests to them; communicate with consumers as authorized and provide customer service; operate, analyze and improve the Services and measure advertising and referral sources; verify submissions, document consent, detect duplicate, invalid, automated or fraudulent activity and maintain security; comply with legal and contractual obligations, protect rights, property and safety, and establish, exercise or defend legal claims; and complete a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing or similar transaction.

We do not collect additional categories of personal information, or use personal information for materially different purposes, without providing notice as required by law.

4. Sensitive Personal Information

Depending on the form you complete, we may collect information that is treated as sensitive personal information under California law, including specifically, your citizenship or immigration status, which we collect when we ask whether you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to determine program eligibility.

We use and disclose this information only as reasonably necessary to provide the services you requested, match you with education providers, prevent fraud, document consent and comply with law. We do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you beyond those purposes.

Because our use falls within the purposes for which California law does not require a right to limit, we do not offer a "Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information" link. If our practices change, we will provide the disclosures and choices required by law. You may still opt out of the sale or sharing of this information as described in Section 5.

5. Your California Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable exceptions, you have the rights below.

Know and access. You may request the categories of personal information we collected, the categories of sources, the business or commercial purposes for collecting, selling or sharing it, the categories of third parties to whom it was disclosed, the categories sold, shared or disclosed for business purposes, and the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you. Applicable law may permit access to records beyond the preceding 12 months.

Delete. You may request deletion of personal information collected from you. We may retain information where permitted by law — for example to complete a requested service, document a submission or consent, detect and prevent fraud, maintain security, debug errors, exercise or defend legal rights, comply with legal obligations, honor opt-outs and suppression requests, or make other lawful internal uses compatible with the context of collection.

Correct. You may request correction of inaccurate personal information. We will consider the nature of the information and the purpose for which it is processed.

Portability. You may request a portable copy of eligible personal information in a readily usable format where required by law.

Opt out of sale or sharing. You may direct us not to sell or share your personal information using the Your Privacy Choices link on EducationDirectory.net. Where required by law we recognize qualifying browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control; a signal applies only to the browser or device that sends it. We will not ask you to opt back in for at least 12 months after processing an opt-out, unless otherwise permitted by law.

Limit sensitive personal information. See Section 4.

Non-discrimination. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a CCPA right by denying goods or services, charging a different price or rate, providing a different level or quality of service, or suggesting you will receive different treatment, except as permitted by the CCPA.

6. Exercising Your Rights

Submit a request using the Your Privacy Choices link on EducationDirectory.net or by emailing privacy@educationdirectory.net. Identify the right you wish to exercise and give us enough information to locate the relevant records. You are not required to create an account.

An opt-out of sale or sharing does not require identity verification, though we may request information reasonably necessary to associate the request with our records. For access, deletion and correction requests we may verify your identity, your authority to make the request, and that the information relates to you — for example by confirming access to an email address or telephone number, or matching information you provide against our records. Verification information is used only to process the request, prevent fraud and maintain legally required records.

Authorized agents. You may authorize another person to submit a request for you. We may require proof of the agent's permission, and may require you to verify your identity with us directly or confirm the authorization. These requirements do not apply where the agent holds a valid power of attorney under California law.

Timing. We confirm receipt of requests to know, delete or correct within the period required by law, and generally respond to verified requests within 45 days. Where reasonably necessary and permitted, we may extend by an additional 45 days and will notify you. We generally do not charge a fee, but may charge a reasonable fee or decline to act on manifestly unfounded or excessive requests, particularly repetitive ones. We may deny or limit a request where we cannot verify the requester, an exception applies, we do not maintain the information, disclosure would create a substantial security risk, or the request is otherwise restricted by law. If we deny a request we will explain the basis to the extent required.

7. Direct-Marketing Disclosure Requests

California Civil Code Section 1798.83 may permit certain residents to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for those parties' own direct-marketing purposes. Email privacy@educationdirectory.net with the subject line California Direct-Marketing Request and include your name and the email address associated with your interaction with EducationDirectory.net.

8. Accessibility, Changes and Contact

If you need assistance accessing this Notice or submitting a request because of a disability, email privacy@educationdirectory.net and we will work with you to provide it in an accessible format.

We may update this Notice to reflect changes in our practices, Services or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date and provide additional notice where required by law.
